Hark the Herald Angels Sing
Welcome to Bethel’s Hymnal, a podcast where we take a few minutes each week to reflect on the songs our church sings and let God’s truth shape our lives. These are our songs—gifts for every generation to sing together in worship.
In this Advent week, we reflect on the beloved carol “Hark! the Herald Angels Sing”—a triumphant proclamation of the good news the angels first announced over Bethlehem. This hymn invites us to join the heavenly chorus in celebrating the mystery of the Incarnation: God Himself taking on flesh to dwell with us, bringing peace, reconciling sinners, and shining light into a world of darkness. As we sing, may our hearts be lifted in awe and gratitude for the newborn King who brings life, healing, and hope to all who trust in Him.
Lyrics:
Hark! the herald angels sing,
"Glory to the newborn King;
Peace on earth, and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled!"
Joyful, all ye nations, rise,
Join the triumph of the skies;
With the angelic host proclaim,
"Christ is born in Bethlehem!"
Hark! the herald angels sing,
"Glory to the newborn King!"
Christ, by highest heaven adored;
Christ, the everlasting Lord;
Late in time behold Him come,
Offspring of the virgin’s womb.
Veiled in flesh the Godhead see;
Hail th' incarnate Deity,
Pleased as man with man to dwell,
Jesus, our Emmanuel.
Hark! the herald angels sing,
"Glory to the newborn King!"
Hail the heaven-born Prince of Peace!
Hail the Sun of Righteousness!
Light and life to all He brings,
Risen with healing in His wings.
Mild He lays His glory by,
Born that man no more may die,
Born to raise the sons of earth,
Born to give them second birth.
Hark! the herald angels sing,
"Glory to the newborn King!"
